Sweet Tooth

Finally watched the movie i was drooling abt...CHARLIE & The CHOCOLATE FACTORY! and i manage to get my hands on a copy of the book. Went to Popular bookstore yesterdae and couldnt find a single copy of the book. I manage to finish readin the book before watching the movie. Thus was able to spot the differences between the movie and the book.

Some of the differences:

• Characters, in the book, the children were accompanied by both parents and each child character wasnt given much background.
• Elevator,it was suppose to have ropes for the passengers to hold on,but not shown in movie.
• Mike had toy guns hanging all o'er him.
• Willy Wonka nvr visited his dad
• Haircut session
• Willy Wonka's goatie
• How Charlie found the golden tix

Despite the differences, the movie was still enjoyable and very funny. The Oompa Loompas were a bunch of "drama-mamas"..Alot of song and dancing. Even my fren who was "forced" to accompany mi to this "childish" movie (as he wld call it) was laffing thoroughout the movie!

The "definition" of whipped cream was so funny, whipped cream cant be called "whipped cream" if the cows aint whipped...

PANTS TREND...

When SpongeBob Square Pants became a hit, its unexpected that DarthVader too have HIGH UNDERPANTS!

11.07.2005, finally laid hands on the much awaited toy..DARTHVADER Medicom...this toy cost a whoopin $280 and required pre-orders a few months back! The hype for this toy was probably due to the toy would be made by a Japanese company. Japanese toymaking companies are known for how detailed their toys are n the articulation. Its a 12" figure, boxed in a real cool looking matt black box. DarthVader is clothe in REAL cloth cloak(The cloak has underwires just like a bra to allow different pose) and clothes, rubbery boots, different positions detachable hands, shiny helmet, detachable belt/underpants and complete with lightsaber. Sounds good so far rite...Its like playing with barbie dolls all over again..

BUT HERE COMES THE BAD PART ...The removable shiny helmet, doesnt quite fit snuggly on the head of Anakin and often cause a prob..the helmet slips of easily and exposes wats left of Anakin's head..Also, the arms, when bent to pose would expose the arms as the "sleeves" were too short!! (so much for details and articulation)..if you tink dats bad already, read tis, NOw for the grand finale, the HIGH UNDIES for the MAN of the saga! HOw can my favourite character be spotting a high underpants which is not even placed at the right place. Though this is old skool stuff, but making the Man of the Sage looking like Urkele is wae too much!

Spent an hour tryin to pose DarthV, to a position which could cover up his high undies and "short sleeves"...!!

When i said " its like playing with barbie dolls all o'er again"...i not onli meant, playing with dolls, but maybe in the future, i may find undies ("each sold separately") on sale in all good departmental stores (just like the barbie doll clothes) ..Hopefully G.L notices the error and ask for a recall for the figure..

So far in the series, there are Boba Fett, Luke Skywalker (the best so far), DarthVader and Stormtrooper..Though i'm disappointed..But i'm still looking forward to the Stormtrooper Medicom nxt week... : D

My little escape from urbanisation...

Pulau Ubin, an island whereby i can escape from the hustle n bustle of citylife and how this l'il island became part of me started from my granddad.

In 1907 in a province in China, a baby boy was born and in those times, families were poor and large, often had insufficient to eat, living conditions were bad. Thus "forcing" many people wanting to come(guo fan) to Singapore in search of new opportunities and jobs.In his early teens(14+) and with pigtail,my granddad's made his way to Spore.His journey to Singapore(at that time was known as Nanyang) was a long and arduous journey n the only mode of transport was by sea.Tonnes of pple were packed into the basement of a ship,livin conditions were bad and many couldnt survive the journey.Those who died would have been thrown overboard.
Not long after he arrived in spore,it was the japanese occupation, he then escaped to Pulau Ubin..and from then on,he's been stayin at Pulau Ubin til now!

Pulau Ubin has evolved so much in the past 22 years...the jetty, the residents, the way of life...In the past,my granddad only operates a provision shop but now,not only do we've a provision shop (the only shop that sells ice cream), we've a seafood restaurant and a drink stall too!
On the island,there werent used to be so many bicycle rental shops and everything was to be in CASH terms,now we have NETS available on the island!
One of the things dat didnt change, there's no power supply/gas supply/water supply like wat we've on mainland Spore,all the elect is from generators, water from wells and gas from cylinders.So there are absolutely no utility BILLS to pay!
There used to be more residents on the island,but alot of 'em had moved out (urbanisation) due to convenience of the mainland. Another culture which still remained is the Chinese Wayang which is performed on important dates such as Vesak Day,it was considered a grand event on the little island.

Peps reading this,if u've not visited this great island, PLS DO SO ASAP and dun forget to drop by this place for some drinks and food!
